The latest Gundam Converge news...

We have discussed the new Converge Plus brand in the comments here before and now Bandai have put up some nice promo shots of the first figures in the line on their Shokugan blog as well as on P-Bandai because apparently these items will hit both retail and premium.

The Plus line is designed to allow for the addition of larger or more complex mobile suit types without sacrificing size or detail based on what you can do with the regular 550 yen line-up. These new figures will form a line with a recommended retail price of ¥900 and will mystifyingly also be available in lots of six from P-Bandai at a price of ¥5940. There appear to be no variations or hidden figures in this line-up so why anyone would want to order six figures seems weird, unless you happen to be a retailer and want to buy maybe two boxes to get three sets or however that works.

Personally I am really happy to see the Messala finally hitting Converge and the Rig Contio is a nice surprise as well. Expected Converge Plus 01 to hit the shelves in (probably late) December.

  1. Bandai Candy Blog shows silhouette of Gottrlatan slated for Plus 02, so looks like they are going deep into Victory Gundam territory now. Author mentions wanting to create all the PMX suits up to the non-canon (??) PMX-004 Titania which might mean some re-issues and the Palace Athene along the way. Overall a bit underwhelmed in my opinion -- none of the suits apart from the Assault-Buster V2 strike me as "Plus" material, seem more like regular retail releases. A Perfect Zeong with detachable arm-thingies might have invoked more fanfare. Their description clearly said **large** MS/MA and/or heavily armed MS. Don't see that here. Heck, the fully-decked-out Kampfer could have made it into Plus...

    1. Agreed on the size, I imagine it comes down to what they can actually squeeze into a standard box rather than it being particularly fancy. The Messala does look a bit tiny but that could be down to the weird art-style they already did on other related suits like the Barzam and the Asshimar. Actually the Asshimar and the Anksha would be perfect for Plus and there is a chance to adjust past misfires like the Geymalk.
