Gundam Converge Limited (Overseas Only) (2012)

If you dig really deep into this blog's history you will find that the very first review I posted was a very skeletal one of this Overseas triple-pack. With the recent look into the Overseas Only edition from 2011 it is high time we upgun the companion 2012 item review to a more modern standard. Ikimasho!

This item is the second ever Overseas Only limited edition set produced by Bandai's "Overseas" Asia division which in all likelihood translates to Hong Kong. This trio of Unicorn mobile suits is a simple colour variation set of figures released through the retail line up to this point, all thematically aligned around the Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn timeline. This item was released in regions outside of Japan where Bandai Asia is represented, presumably Hong Kong, Taiwan and the occasional additional market. As such it has gained in value domestically in Japan. Mandarake was at the time of this review selling one item for ¥11500. I don't know what the original price was outside of Japan but presumably in the $20-range.

RX-0 Unicorn Gundam (Unicorn Mode)

The basic Unicorn figure is perhaps one of the less enticing Converge figures, seeing as it is for the most part a single colour figure. The new pearl color variant adds a bit of flair and livens things up a bit. The slightly forward leaning pose means the figure does not stand up very reliably without its clear support piece. Speaking of that, this item has been in the collection for such a long time that I don't have any parts- or bag photos to accompany the review but they are no different from the respective retail item in this regard.

Interestingly, Bandai has yet to revisit the Unicorn Mode figure in its #Sharp figure reboot. There are however plenty of variants of the base figure in the Converge history. Seen here from left to right are the two retail figures - one of which carries the secret bazooka weapon option - the Operation Revive figure which received a new Beam Gatling Gun (in the Limited Edition packaging only) and the two pearl-coated figures. The first of the latter two is our Overseas figure whereas the figure with a red Unicorn marking on its shield is a Dengeki Hobby limited promotional item.

MSN-001A1 Delta Plus

The beautiful Delta Plus does really well in its more subdued and darker metallic colour. You don't always see the transparent thing going on with the Converge figure eyes but these ones are hard to miss. Looking closer now there seems to be a bit of the corner section missing on the left eye, not sure if this is a part that needs to be pushed back in or if there is a manufacturing error as I don't have the figure at hand right now. Such things can be hard to unsee. :)

Comparison shot with the retail version figure which is light gray and also has smaller white markings on the shoulder. Again, not sure if this is a production variation or if the factory was overzealous when repainting the figure with extra white.

RGM-96X Jesta

Finally we have the deadly special ops type Jesta which now sports a dark blue metallic livery with gray metal detail. The figure lost its EFSF insignia on the shoulder shield which makes it immediately recognizable from its older variant. It is the good old practice of adding something with one hand while taking away with the other.

The Jesta is the only member of the trio that has also been re-introduced in the Converge #Sharp program. The new figure has a revised colour scheme and a larger weapon but looks unusually similar to the previous embodiment. Even the size is nearly the same.

Overall this trio is a really nice set of figures that perhaps doesn't add a great deal to the collection if you already own the retail variants (or vice versa for that matter). With the current price point on the secondary market anyone who is not a completionist can safely skip this one.
